When i think of the purpose of CGs i think of the VLA (Very Large Array…how imaginative) out in New Mexico. This is an impressive array or arrangement of very large satellite dishes (see below) .
Each of the 27 gigantic satellite antennas are 82 feet in diameter adn weigh 230 tons! But when each of these antennae are placed together in a formation (3 long arms connected at one end .. like a “Y”) they can act together to simulate ONE large antennae 22.3 MILES in diameter. It would be both impossible and impractical to build one antennae that large. The satellite picture of that array is below.
So what does that have to do with Connection groups? well CGs are really like the each of the independent dishes in that array. As long as we are all bound together our Love for God and neighbor… and we are focused in the same direction (vision, mission, purpose), we can effectively work together as one larger body or community . We can accomplish far more in this array than we could as and individual member or as a singular Connection Group. Connection groups also allow us to care for one another in intimate and relational ways… things we could not do as simply one large church group.
